He was born on <time id=\"birthDateLabel\" class=\"info\">November 27, 1941 to Anthony J. and Mary E. Kocevar Malesic of Enhaut.<\/time><\/p>\n<p>Tony Malesic, aka \u201cSonny,\u201d became a skilled and licensed Amateur Radio Operator in 1958, before graduating from Bishop McDevitt High School in 1960. Besides being a &#8220;Ham Radio Guy&#8221; throughout his life as K3BHL and later as H18XDF. Another early passion was sports cars, and he was one of the original members of the Tuscarora Sports Car Club.<\/p>\n<p>He served in the US Army in Vietnam before entering the Central Intelligence Agency, serving as a Communications Officer, stateside and overseas. He retired after more than 32 years of service to his country highlighted by citations and awards for outstanding service and contributions, including the CIA&#8217;s Intelligence Commendation Medal. During those years he completed many temporary assignments at American Facilities and Embassies before permanent assignments in Indonesia, Sierra Leone, the Philippines, Bolivia, Laos, Guinea, the Dominican Republic and Romania, retiring from his last position in Washington, DC to return to Enhaut and his family.<\/p>\n<p>He was a member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, Steelton and St. Aloysius Lodge No. 42 KSKJ.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his former wife, Suzanne Gary Malesic of Charles Town, WV; his son, Matthew Anton Malesic of Clifton, VA; his parents, Anthony J. and Mary E. Kocevar Malesic of Enhaut; uncles, aunts, and many devoted cousins and friends.<\/p>\n<p>Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11:00 am in Prince of Peace-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Edward J. Malesic, his cousin, and Rev. James M. Lyons, his Pastor, as concelebrants.<\/p>\n<p>Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday from 7:00 until 9:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:30 am in Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Second St., Steelton. Recitation of the Rosary Friday at 8:00 pm.<br \/>\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, 815 S. When I was about 10 you put those awesome earphones on me and I heard rock and roll like I never heard it before. When I turned 21 you were the first guy to buy me a drink at a bar\u2013a Singapore Sling!! I can still see that amused look on your face when the bartender set it in front of me and pointed out who sent it over. It was particularly exciting since I too am from the Harrisburg area. I did not know Tony before that time. When we returned from our tour, he invited my wife, Carol, and me to his wedding. Sadly, we lost contact over the years. Last year, April 2008, I found him and we exchanged info bringing each up to date with our lives with a vow to stay in touch. Again, sadly, neither of us followed up and now he is gone.<\/p>\n<p>What I remember most about Tony was his wit and quick smile. He must have some pix of us cavorting with the Persian Shepard pups at base camp. Perhaps some of us sharing a martini at the bar after a long day in ops. He and I were the only two on duty and awake the night the 8.4 earthquake hit us. He made the time go fast for us on that mountain top. The memories came flooding back last year when we exchanged emails. He even sent me an updated pix of the old site in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>I had no idea he was suffering with diabetes. He never said a word. This is typical of what I remember most about him; a gentleman who put most others ahead of himself. Please accept our sincere condolences. He was a well-respected historian and researcher into the history of piracy. He would take a lot of time to help answer questions and research information for others. Even more importantly perhaps, he had set up an email network for those interested in the history of piracy and privateering. Through this network, many of us met and made friends with other historians and researchers. Also, Tony had a wicked sense of humor, and gave me many a laugh.<br \/>\nI\u2019m very happy to have \u201cmet\u201d Tony. I gained a lot of knowledge and insight directly from him, and also because of the network he set up.
